But what exactly does this mean?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Let\u2019s break down these two arguments in more detail:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Biden\u2019s Argument<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Biden argues that we\u2019re not in a recession. For years, the standard definition of a recession has been two consecutive quarters of negative GDP growth. However, the Biden administration has essentially redefined the term recession.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They argued that the technical definition of a recession is <em>not<\/em> two-quarters of negative GDP, but rather a subjective, open-ended interpretation that involves a range of additional factors.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Biden administration\u2019s key point is that the United States can\u2019t possibly be in a recession because of strong employment numbers.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But are these numbers really that convincing?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Some have pointed out that the Biden administration took credit for people<a href=\"https:\/\/www.alliancevirtualoffices.com\/virtual-office-blog\/are-you-working-in-one-of-the-worst-jobs-during-recession-2\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\"> returning to their jobs after the pandemic<\/a>. These critics argue that these people were going to return to their jobs regardless and that these jobs were pre-existing.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On the other hand, the Biden administration claims that they created these new jobs and that people going back to work is a victory in job creation.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>The Opposing Argument<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The opposing argument is that inflation and unemployment make it clear we\u2019re already in a recession.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The government is constantly printing money, which leads to inflation. In addition, the pandemic did so much damage to the supply chain that it might take many more years to recover.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">People are now having trouble buying new cars, PS5s, and many other goods. This is due to semiconductor shortages, cargo ships spending months waiting to unload products, and all kinds of other issues.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On top of that, we now have a proxy war in Ukraine that requires even <em>more<\/em> money printing while further incapacitating supply chains \u2013 especially in regards to grain and oil.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">All of this affects the consumer. Inflation leaves the average American with less money to spend each month. And even if they can afford it, they <em>can\u2019t<\/em> buy many of the things they want because of empty shelves and supply chain issues.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This means that people are spending less money on a variety of goods, and they are becoming increasingly focused on the bare necessities:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Housing<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Healthcare<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Food&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Numerous companies that rely on relatively wealthy consumers to buy non-essential items now seem incredibly vulnerable. We\u2019re talking major names like Netflix, Apple, and Tesla.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">These companies have been some of the biggest losers of 2022\u2019s stock market \u2013 a stock market that now seems shaky at best.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Without consumers purchasing these goods, the economy cannot continue to thrive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And that\u2019s when a domino effect causes everything to come crashing down.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Consider what other people have said about the current state of the economy:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/news\/business-62405037\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">The Bank of England<\/a> has warned that the UK <em>will<\/em> fall into recession this year<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Goldman Sachs CEO David Solomon now believes that inflation is \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/fortune.com\/2022\/07\/18\/inflation-deeply-entrenched-goldman-sachs-ceo-david-solomon\/#:~:text=Now%2C%20Wall%20Street%20is%20arguing,on%20Wall%20Street%20have%20predicted.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">entrenched in the economy.<\/a>\u201d<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>JPMorgan Chase &amp; Co.
