It\u2019s a small business with growth ambitions.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Startups are also different in the way they\u2019re formed.<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Traditional small businesses might launch with the help of small business loans, and they tend to follow the &#8220;tried and true\u201d path followed by most businesses when they\u2019re just getting started.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Startups can do this as well, but they may also go in a completely different direction.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For instance, one of the major sources of funding for startups is crowdsourcing.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Crowdsourcing is a form of funding in which the business asks for investments from individuals rather than from institutions.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The individuals are typically consumers interested in the startup\u2019s proposed offerings. They invest because they want the startup\u2019s products or services \u2013 and they may be rewarded for their early loyalty.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Crowdfunding also differs from normal investing because each investor typically invests a much smaller amount. Instead of a few huge stakeholders, there are hundreds or thousands of very small stakeholders who support the new business.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sometimes crowdsourcing doesn\u2019t even involve a stake in the company, as some startups actually sell their products or services preemptively.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For example, a clothing designer may design a jacket but lack the funds to launch a business and produce it.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In this instance, the designer could offer the jacket to the public with the contingency that they need to sell 200 of them before they can afford to produce them.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Consumers interested in the jacket can purchase it prior to its production.
