And why does it matter?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-css-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"400\" height=\"400\" src=\"https:\/\/www.alliancevirtualoffices.com\/virtual-office-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/02-Employee-2.png\" alt=\"Employee section\" class=\"wp-image-11598\" style=\"width:300px;height:300px\" title=\"Employee section\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.alliancevirtualoffices.com\/virtual-office-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/02-Employee-2.png 400w, https:\/\/www.alliancevirtualoffices.com\/virtual-office-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/02-Employee-2-300x300.png 300w, https:\/\/www.alliancevirtualoffices.com\/virtual-office-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/02-Employee-2-150x150.png 150w, https:\/\/www.alliancevirtualoffices.com\/virtual-office-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/02-Employee-2-75x75.png 75w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Employee<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">An employee status is a role that often coincides with our traditional views of the workforce.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">People who are considered employees are typically bound by a contract, which can sometimes be handwritten or even verbal, that solidifies employment as well as the benefits and protections they are eligible for.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Usually, employees enjoy the most company-provided benefits, such as health insurance, maternity and paternity leave, paid vacation, statutory sick pay, labor protections such as unlawful dismissal, access to flexible work arrangements, and more.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In fact, some countries allow employees to have the right to request flexible working arrangements depending on their situation.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For instance, the UK government introduced the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cipd.co.uk\/knowledge\/fundamentals\/relations\/flexible-working\/factsheet#gref\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">\u201cright to request flexible working\u201d<\/a> legislation in 2003, which was mostly geared towards working parents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Any UK professional can request flexible working arrangements if they are legally considered an employee, have worked for their employer for at least 26 weeks, and have not made any other flexible working requests in the previous 12 months.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In March 2018, a taskforce comprised of various UK government entities, business groups, trade unions, and charities was created to improve this legislation and expand it to more employees. The goal of this taskforce aimed to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Make work more accessible to older people, while still keeping them healthy<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Improve job satisfaction, as well as employee wellbeing, engagement, and productivity<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Boost company retention rates<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Cutting down on sickness absences<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Create a more diverse workforce and address the gender pay gap<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Aside from the guaranteed perks, employees also have an agreed upon set of expectations that they are obliged to fulfill due to their contract.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This means the employers have more of a say in where the employee operates, exactly how they work, and when they are expected to complete tasks. If they don\u2019t perform these tasks as guaranteed, they could potentially face consequences.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Additionally, employees are typically required to fill out a W-4 tax form when they are first employed.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This form is used to provide your employer with all the basic information so they can withhold the accurate amount of federal income tax from your paychecks. The purpose of a W-9 is similar to that of a W-4 and simply provides your client with basic information they may need for tax season.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Once received, your client will need to fill out a 1099-NEC form if you receive $600 or more in payments over the year.
